EXHIBITION: SUPER 8 CAM

Dalston Superstore, 117 Kingsland Road, London E8 2PB, 12 - 15 April 2012

 A series of six intimate portraits by local artists Antonio da Silva, KEEM, Konstantinos Menelaou, Marie Schuller, Jason Bradbury and Mei Chan shot in Super 8. Artists were given a brief to create a personal moment between themselves and the subject of their affection/obsession. The video pieces document the relationship between artist and subject as well as exploring the gaze of the viewer taking the viewpoint of the artist. A film camera has the ability to grant power to the filmographer and by proxy the viewer, and put the subject in a vulnerable position. However when the role play is on equal terms then the game becomes an intense erotic experience. Each portrait was shot to give the process of filming the same importance as the subject being filmed and thus expose the filmmaker as much as the subject. The result are six video pieces that are exhibited without any editing, no post production alterations and no sound.

Kennington

Last summer KEEM placed a loaded film camera in each of their homes.  Over the course of the Summer they filled the frames.  Sometimes with each other, sometimes in front of each other, and sometimes alone, without the other knowing.  The first roll of developed film was made into the publication, Kennington. Here are a few images from the book.

Super 8 film for FRINGE!

At the beginning of March KEEM was commissioned to produce a short film for FRINGE! the East London Gay Film Festival 2012, using a Super 8 camera. The film is currently being processed in Germany, and will be exhibited during the festival in April - more details to follow soon.

A Chain of Wooded Mountains

Last October KEEM travelled to the Balkans, taking 3 cameras and shooting 1237 photographs in 10 days.

What happens when two people take the same trip, hold the same cameras, and then reflect separately?

The first step of the project involves each of KEEM making a personal edit of 80 images from the original 1237 images. The end results will be displayed in a double publication.
